![]() ![]() The Ultra channel picked up where the crunch left off and went into high gain heaven. The Crunch channel was good for blues to classic rock and hard rock. The clean channel was pretty darn good at doing cleans to gritty blues. I never liked the sound of those ADAs or the marshall 9004 preamp but marshall had an all tube pre (jmp-1)that was nice. If you wanted more saturation then you could boost it or put a compressor in the effects loop. Without a boost its sounds like a Fender hotrod wo reverb or an old non-master marshall (it could clone dirty deeds tone). The 922 gets a lot of different tones and is very touchy to your choice of tubes and bias. The 922 matched with a Marshall stereo tube power amp sounds a bit better (then again the marshall power amp is more). I thought it sounded okay but could also probably use an eq in the loop. Sorry I dont know anything about the Tubeworks pre other than watching the same youtube vid you likely did. ![]() Im working on repairing a 2-button footswitch right now so I can get to the clean channel again to experiment more with it. It sounds pretty good like that through the Classic 120 power amp, IMO. ![]() ![]() Youd possibly be pretty happy with it as is, but I prefer using an eq between the pre and poweramp to just barely tap into a little more low-mids and upper-mids, and I also break with tradition and use a tubescreamer to boost the front end and leave the pull-boost pushed in. I dont really need MIDI, I plan to use it for recording in my home studio. Im looking for something that is more complex and full in terms of lead tone, while being. I have heard good things about the TubeWorks BK Butler RealTube RT922 preamp and Im wondering if it can do high gain well in stacked mode The only sound sample I found is from YouTube and its not that convincing IMO.įWIW, I have had an MP-1 Classic and an MP-1 in the past and dont care for those nowadays. Im looking for a super saturated liquid lead tone with lots of pouring tube harmonics I dont need a clean channel, crunch or anything else really. ![]()
